Our Projects
Yibiboa I: She Grows, We Grow
The project will give 200 rural women in multiple communities, specifically designed containers for collecting their organic waste and set up a system for collecting filled containers. These waste materials will be converted into organic fertilizer using Black Soldier Fly technology. A portion of the fertilizer will then be given to the women along with seeds and best practice training for their backyard gardens.
Background
Due to a lack of regular waste collection services, improper waste disposal and environmental degradation are common in rural areas. Unfortunately, many diseases such as malaria and dysentery that claims the lives of 4 million young Africans are associated to these practices. Furthermore, because fresh produce is more expensive and therefore harder to include continually in diets within rural areas, malnutrition and food insecurity rates are significantly rising.
